A graduation ceremony for Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) from the program sponsored by Mohawk Valley Nursing Home (MVNH) in Ilion and Folts Homes in Herkimer was held on April 10, 2009. Since the inception of this course, 257 students have successfully completed the classes to become CNAs. The CNAs work under the supervision of a nurse and provide assistance to residents with daily living tasks, as well as social and emotional support.

A public hearing to discuss the Mount Markham Central School District’s proposed 2009-10 budget is scheduled for 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 12, in the high school auditorium on Fairground Road, West Winfield.
Prior to the hearing, residents will receive by mail the district’s spring issue of the Panorama newsletter, which explains the budget proposal in greater detail.

June is National Dairy Month, making it the perfect time to recognize the hard-working men and women of New York’s dairy industry. Dairy farming falls under the larger category of agriculture, which just so happens to be the largest industry in New York State.

Megan Merritt, Class of 2011 at Skidmore College, earned honors for the spring semester. Megan is the daughter of Lon and Christine Merritt of West Winfield.

Folts Homes in Herkimer is getting ready for their 4th annual “Summer Strawberry Festival” to be held on Saturday, July 11, 2009, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., come rain or shine.
