The Otsego County Conservation Association has received a $1,000 grant from the Council of Community Services of New York State (CCSNYS). The announcement was made March 5 by Andrew Marietta, central New York regional coordinator for CCSNYS. The money will be used for participation by OCCA Executive Director Erik Miller in a June conference offered by CCSNYS in Syracuse. The conference, titled Being a Successful Executive Director, will be an intensive training for nonprofit executive directors with less than five years experience in that role. Participants will be introduced to skills necessary for a successful executive director to master. Emphasis will be placed on the elements of nonprofit executive leadership, management and problem solving. Funds from the grant will also go toward the purchase of software to better manage donations and membership dues received by OCCA. The software will be shared with Otsego 2000 and the Otsego Land Trust, organizations whose missions are compatible with OCCA’s and whose offices are located on the same premises. “Naturally, we are very pleased to have received this funding,” Miller said. “Both components funded by the grant will be effective tools in improving our organizational performance. We are very grateful to the Council of Community Services for granting us the maximum allowed under its mini-grant program.”
