The Folts/Mohawk Valley Nursing Homes are again offering scholarship opportunities to area high school students. One $250 scholarship will be awarded to a student at each of the following local high schools: Dolgeville, Little Falls, Owen D. Young, Mount Markham, Herkimer, Richfield Springs, Ilion, Poland, West Canada Valley, Frankfort, Gregory B. Jarvis, B.O.C.E.S. “This Health Care Scholarship Program was created several years ago with a dual purpose in mind,” states Linda Cardarelli, Director of Development and former Human Resource Director. “It was structured with the intent to loom interest in the field of healthcare positions, strengthen the short fall in healthcare workers and entice young people to remain within this geographical area.” There are tremendous employment opportunities that await healthcare practitioners both at the Folts/MVN Homes, as well as the community at large. Interested students attending any of the above named schools can obtain scholarship program information from their school guidance counselor’s office or by contacting Folts Foundation at 315-866-6964. In order to take advantage of this award, students must submit an application with several additional requirements listed within the program information packets. Scholarship applications must be completed and returned to the Folts Homes by April 15. The scholarship application committee convenes with the selection process the first part of May with the award notifications going out mid May. Scholarship recipients are also eligible for a paid summer internship at the Homes. The awards are based on the receipt of specified, required material, along with the compelling nature of the required essay each student submits competing for the award. The scholarship committee is made up of board members, staff and residents of the homes whose previous or current vocations are either in the field of healthcare or education. Folts Homes is proud to be able to offer this opportunity to our young people within the community in an effort to strengthen the base of healthcare professionals in the area. The Folts/MVN Homes also offer additional educational opportunities to include the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training program. Information about the CNA Program can be obtained by contacting the Human Resource Department at 315-866-6964.
