Lady Indians defeated in Section III
By Bruce Watson

The Richfield Springs Central School (RSCS) varsity girls basketball team endured a full court press from Sackets Harbor and maintained a lead throughout the first three quarters of the game by as many as eleven points, but Sackets Harbor outscored the Lady Indians 19-8 in the fourth quarter and captured the Section III Class D semi-final win on Saturday, February 28 at South Lewis Central School.

Sackets Harbor, the #2 seed with a 17-3 record, upped their three-point game and forced RSCS, the number 3 seed) to make costly turnovers and miss some key shots.

Katie Moshier led all scorers with 20 points and brought down 18 rebounds; Karena Molloy contributed 12 points and 5 rebounds. Bekah Havens scored 9 points, had 9 assists and 6 rebounds.

“Although we suffered a painful three point loss, I am tremendously proud of our kids. They worked very hard all season and played a terrific game,” said head coach Stacey Mayne.

Last year, RSCS played Sackets Harbor in the sectional final and will now move on to face state-ranked Hamilton who remains unbeaten.

A large contingent of loyal Richfield Springs fans made the trip to South Lewis on Saturday.

“We are very grateful for the fan support we received throughout the season. Our fans are the best,” offered Mayne.
