Sportsman show set for Feb. 7

The Central New York Sportsman Show will be held on Saturday February 7,  from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Kallet Civic Center, 159 Main Street, in Oneida. This year’s show will feature many businesses and clubs from the Central New York area representing archery and gun shops, charter fishing trips, wildlife artwork, hunting and fishing equipment and other outdoor related categories.  A large collection of mounts from area hunters will be displayed, and the Morrisville State Outdoor Recreation Club will again feature its Trout Fishing Pond.

New this year is the addition of seven New York state authors who will be offering book signings of their publications.  These authors and topics include Gary Lee, Adirondack birding; Bob Elinskas, deer hunting in the Adirondacks in the past; Bill Ingersoll, the “Discover the Adirondacks” series of guidebooks; Dan Ladd, modern deer hunting in the Adirondacks; Mike Joyner, turkey hunting; Dave Henderson, shotguns; and Ray “Spider” Rybaak, New York State fishing guides.

The public is invited to bring in any deer, caribou, elk, moose, or antelope to be measured by Brian Dam of the N.Y. State Big Buck’s Club. A prize will be awarded to the largest unscored buck entry.  Raffles and door prizes will be announced throughout the day, including the winners of the Three M Outdoor Adventures charter fishing trip for four, and a muzzle loader.

Experts in their fields will give seminars and demonstrations on hunting and fishing. A complete schedule can be found at www.holycrossacademy.com.

Sportsmen are asked to mail in or email outdoor photos of their proudest moments to be displayed on the Outdoor Wall of Fame. Photos should include a short description, and may be sent to maciag@bluefrog.com by February 1st.

A highlight of the event will be the announcement of the winner of the C.N.Y. Sportsman of the Year award. Nominations are being accepted until February 1.

Admission is $6 with children 12 years of age and under free. This year’s show is sponsored by Traditions Archery, Planet Fitness-Oneida, Child Health Associates, Gander Mountain, and The New York Fish and Game Monthly.  Proceeds will benefit Holy Cross Academy in Oneida.  For more information call 315-363-1669, 315-264-8817, or visit www.holycrossacademy.com.
