Marjorie Brooks is your hometown financial adviser
By Richard Palmer

WEST WINFIELD - In these precarious economic times it’s nice to know there is someone nearby to assist people with managing their financial future. Marjorie Brooks has more than 30 years of experience in helping clients address their current and future goals.

Before starting her own financial consulting business in 1997, Brooks was in the insurance business several years before joining Oneida National Bank. She retired from there as vice president of the municipal division, having assisted towns and villages and school districts with their financial programs. Prior to starting her own business, she was employed by a large, locally-owned brokerage firm, and has a broker’s license.

Most of her clients are from this area, and Brooks said that she “frequently meets with her clients in their homes.”

Services provided involve every form of investment, including various categories of mutual funds, annuities and income. Everyone’s financial goals are different, she said. Younger people might want to take on a more aggressive investment to build up their portfolio while a retired person might be better off investing in more fixed income-type of investments such as  CD’s or annuities.

Brooks also provides a varied and extensive education program that includes basic information on investment planning, understanding investment terms and concepts,   the keys to successful investing, the basics of mutual funds, investing in stocks and bonds, the best ways to save for college, saving for retirement and a child’s education at the same time, as well as insurance.

Services also include tax planning for income, taxation of investments, the tax benefits of home ownership and a full gamut of related issues.  Advice is also available on understanding IRAs and deciding what to do with a 401(k) plan when one changes jobs;  financial tips for unmarried couples; wills and trusts.

The way to get started in establishing your own financial safety net is to contact Brooks at 315-822-5754. Her office is located at 386 Burrows Road, just south of the village of West Winfield. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
