Herkimer High School presents classic musical

The Herkimer High School Footlighters will present the Tony Award winning 2002 Broadway musical production at 7:30 p.m., Thursday through Saturday, March 12, 13 and 14, 2009, in the Herkimer High School auditorium.

The musical is based upon the 1967 musical film, starring Julie Andrews and written by Richard Morris, with music by Jeanine Tesori and lyrics by Dick Scanlan.

This year’s production is directed by John Krause and choreographed by Mamie Bowdish.

The story finds young Millie Dillmount moving to the heart of New York City in search of a new life for herself during the wild Roaring Twenties. A thoroughly modern concept for women in 1922, the story tells of her madcap adventures in a city filled intrigue and jazz. It is a time when women were just beginning to enter the workforce and the rules of love and social behavior were changing forever.

The cast of nearly 60 students includes Shannon Adamson, Nick Bronson, Kristara Bly, Kaitlynne Carpenter, Emily Ciccarelli, Alyssa Clark, Jessica Clark, Mike Clark, Matt Clark, Nicole Congdon, Michael Dolly, Michele Ervin, Robby Fiorentino, Caity Gallagher, MaryBeth Gamble, Anthony Giordano, Olivia Guidi, Rebekah Guiney, Ethan Harrison, Spencer Heath, Gabrielle Kinney, Josh Lanza, Dan Luppino, Pat Malowski, Sean Maphia, Rebecca Masi, Alicia Mullie, Dylan Mureness, Gianna Netti, Jaclyn Orcutt, Phil O’Donnell, Rebecca Paoni, Brooke Rando, Alexis Reed, Lucas Rivers, Amanda Roberts, Jeremy Rokjer, Michael Ronan, Trevor Roorda, Adam Saltis, Brittany Scalise, Brandon Scialdone, Samantha Siver, Tiffany Smith, Holden Smith, Nolan Smith, Ben Stovall, Stephon Suarez, Abbie Sutliff, Cara Tomaso, McLane Tyoe, Jessica Tyrell, Alyssa Volkmer, Leta Williams and Giovanna Ziviani.

Thoroughly Modern Millie was nominated for 11 Tony Awards, and claimed all 11, including Best Musical, Book, and Score.

It features a jazzy musical score and an upbeat, hilarious cast of characters.

Tickets are $6 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens.

General seating and a special free admission is available to senior citizens on Thursday night, March 12.

Tickets may be obtained at Hannaford Supermarket in Herkimer or at the door each night of the performance.
