VANHORNESVILLE, N.Y. – The VanHornesville Voices Community Chorus will begin rehearsals for their spring concert on Tuesday evening, February 24, at 7 p.m., in the Owen D. Young Central School auditorium. The chorus rehearses once each week on Tuesday evenings, from 7 until 8:30 p.m., from now until they perform a public concert at the school on May 26. A wide variety of choral music is sung, from classical pieces to Broadway favorites, to pop. For this concert, among other selections, the repertoire includes Mendelssohn’s “He’s Watching Over Israel,” “Everything’s Coming Up Roses,” from the musical “Gypsy,” and “Dream,” which was the theme of a 1940s radio show hosted by Johnny Mercer. The VanHornesville Voices Chorus began in 2001. It is directed by ODY’s music teacher, Tom MacMillan, and accompanied by Sue Durand. In addition to the concerts at ODY, the group has also entertained Richfield Springs residents with concerts at the Church of Christ Uniting, on Church Street. Membership in the chorus is open to anyone who likes to sing. There have been members of every age: fifth graders, high school and college students, up through retirement age. New members are welcome. For more information, contact director MacMillan at 315-858-2047.
