Chill out at Winter Chill Out

The Friends of Glimmer glass State Park will host a Winter Chill Out on Wednesday, Feb. 18, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Glimmerglass State Park, 1527 County Highway 31, Cooperstown.

The event begins with registration followed by silly winter games, ice fishing demonstrations, a winter hike, snow painting and sculpturing and concludes with an awards ceremony. Also available is ice skating, cross-country skiing, disc golf and wagon rides.

During lunch in the Glimmerglass Room, Dr. Brian Williams, Department of Family Medicine with Bassett Healthcare, will be the key presenter.  He will focus his presentation on Winter Safety, including such topics as hypothermia, frost bite and winter sports safety (helmets, safety equipment).  Dr. Williams provides adult care in the Prime Care Clinic, in Cooperstown.His clinical interests include sports medicine, wilderness and travel medicine, and preventive health care. For the Winter Chill Out, he is sponsored by Safe Kids of Otsego County, which is led by Bassett Healthcare (www.safekids.org).

 There will be fun galore for all ages, particularly kids over five years of age and adults. This is a perfect family outing to explore and enjoy the great outdoors and participate in a variety of events. The warming tent will be available for your relaxation and break from the cold.

 The cost is $5 per person, $3 for Friends of Glimmerglass State Park, and it includes lunch and all supplies.
