Stay vigilant in school and government affairs

For years the salaries and benefits of the employees at RSCS were listed in the school budget brochure mailed to district residents each year. While this did not include the actual names of the employees, it was another way to provide full disclosure of information that the district residents are accustomed to receiving.

This year this list might be left out of the 2009-2010 budget proposal mailed to voters. We hope this will not be the case. We believe that if a referendum was passed years ago to include this information, it should continue and school officials should not remove this information until the voters approve its removal.

Not including this information only makes residents suspect of  the entire brochure.

A source of information to bookmark is the website seethroughny.net. This provides a look into how your tax dollars are spent in regards to salaries, benefits and packages provided to your publicly funded employees, from school on through to state positions.

Taxpayers need to keep abreast of local meetings whether it is school, village, town, county or state. Remember that your public officials are funded by your tax dollars, thereby making you the boss.

Do not be afraid to let your voice, concerns and needs be heard.

As long as you fund their budgets, they work for you.
