• Thursday, May 19 – Richard B. Scott, 40, of 375 Neilson Rd.,
Cherry Valley, was arrested for criminal possession of a weapon in the
fourth degree, a misdemeanor, and violation of probation, a felony.
Scott was arrested during a probation curfew check for allegedly
possessing a 12 gauge shotgun and 35 caliber rifle in his residence, a
violation of his probation. Scott is a convicted felon after two DWI
convictions in 1997 and 2003. He was issued an appearance ticket for
the criminal possession of a weapon charge and is facing a felony count
in county court for violating probation.
• Tuesday, May 24 – Mark J. Middlemiss Jr., 39, formerly of Fort
Plain, was arrested for scheming to defraud in the first degree and
grand larceny in the third degree, both are felonies. Middlemiss
allegedly scammed three village of Cherry Valley residents out of
$20,400, according to the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO).
Middlemiss, a self employed contractor, allegedly received payment
for construction projects and never performed the promised work. Dennis
Laughlin, from the law firm of Tracy’s Law Office in Cherry Valley,
contacted the district attorney’s office and OCSO in April to report
the incident. Middlemiss was arrested as a fugitive of law in
Pittsfield, Mass. May, 17, and remanded to the Otsego County Jail on
$25,000 bail.
