Town of Richfield

Bakers Beach parking available

Baker’s Beach opened on Monday, February 2, providing access for ice fishing parking. This move is the result of an agreement of a contract between the town of Richfield and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. The DEC will be responsible and liable for Baker’s Beach during the winter season. The contract is from December 15 to April 15, through the year 2019.

New town judge appointed

The town of Richfield appointed a new judge to fill retired judge John DeFino’s position vacated January 1. Janyce Terwilliger, of Richfield Springs, was appointed in January and started her position immediately. Once certified, she will be sharing the bench with town justice Peter Brykailo. She is expected to be certified in April and until her certification she will be assisting Brykailo and learning the responsibilities she will be undertaking as a new town judge.

Comp Plan Draft hearing set

A draft of Springfield’s Comprehensive Plan is ready for community review.

A Comprehensive Planning Committee comprised of Thomas Armstrong, Thomas Clarke, Mark Crisman, Betty Fassett, Clyde Goodrich, Ken Ostrander, and led by Co-chairs David Staley and Bob Weaver have been diligently working on various elements of the plan since October, 2006.

The issues, goals, and recommended strategies detailed in this plan are based on information and data gathered about the Town of Springfield, as well as input from the Town residents through the Resident Survey, the Planning and Visioning Workshop, and public attendance at monthly meetings.

The next step in the process is to gather public comment on the draft document.  Copies of the Draft Comprehensive Plan are available for review at the Springfield Library and at the town clerk’s office. The plan has also been posted online at the Otsego County Planning Department website at www.otsegocounty.com/depts/pln/TownofSpringfield.htm.

A public hearing regarding the draft plan is scheduled for March 16, at 7 p.m. at the Springfield Community Center located in Springfield Center.
