The Cherry Valley-Springfield Central School Board of Education
established a new tuition for the 2005-2006 school year. The tuition
applies to students who attend CV-S, but do not live in the school
district.
The district’s tuition for the 2004-2005 school year had been set at
$500 per student and an administration fee of $100 per family.
The board reviewed a number of tuition policies administered in
other area school districts and discussed the finances and liabilities
associated with tuition policies.
The board felt that the state aid received for administering a
tuition policy outweighed the potential costs of special needs students
that attend the institution on a tuition basis.
The board passed a motion that would change the school’s tuition to
$100 per student and a $500 administration fee per family. The board
felt that this would help the families of students attending on a
tuition basis with cost, but not create a depletion of funding received
through tuition fees for the school district.
The board also insisted that Superintendent Nick Savin inform the
parents of tuition students that a decision to accept tuition-based
students would be reviewed on an annual basis, therefore allowing for
no out of district students to be grandfathered into the school
district.
Committee meeting
The board will hold its first operational committee meeting, a newly
established committee directed at addressing specific departments and
issues in the district, on Aug. 11 at 7 p.m. The board agreed that the
first item on the agenda will be to discuss the structure of the
committee.
Building project
Savin reported that bids will open for the school’s new building project on Thursday, July 28.
