Steere nominated for Liberty Bell

Richfield Springs Central School (RSCS) recently selected Tyler Steere as this year’s nominee for the Liberty Bell Award and Law Day Ceremonies sponsored by the Otsego Bar Association at the Otsego County Courthouse in Cooperstown, N.Y. School districts in the area are asked to nominate a student who “demonstrates a knowledge of civic, educational and community events and who, by his or her academic and extracurricular background, demonstrates a strong commitment to citizenship.” | | Tyler Steere, son of Alan and Roberta Steere of Schuyler Lake, was recently nominated by the Scholarship Committee of RSCS to attend Law Day in Cooperstown in May, and will compete with other school nominees for the Liberty Bell Award. Steere is a senior at RSCS and will attend Keuka College in the fall. (Photo by Bruce Watson) | | Steere will be interviewed by members of the Bar and Bench of Otsego County on April 2, which will focus on topics including the Constitution, current events and matters of civic interest. Law Day ceremonies will be held on May 1, followed by a luncheon that his parents are invited to attend. While a student at RSCS, Steere has been active in jazz band, marching band, concert band, and was organizer of the school’s drumline. He has also been involved in cross-country, soccer and is this year’s co-editor of the 2009 RSCS SPA yearbook. He is a member of the boy’s varsity track team, National Honor Society, Students Against Destructive Decisions, and fulfilled his community service requirements by helping with the Salvation Army as a bell ringer during December, American Red Cross Blood drive, and helping the RSCS Sports Boosters at the Calkins Wrestling Tournament. “I am excited about attending Law Day because I’m going to be in the pre-law professional program at Keuka College,” said Steere. He has been awarded a Clark Scholarship and over $17,000 in scholarships and grants from Keuka for his freshman year.
