VH company gets loan from IDA

VAN HORNESVILLE – The County of Otsego Industrial Development Agency (COIDA), last week, announced an expanded working relationship with Opto Generic Devices, Inc (OGD), of Van Hornesville. At a special meeting held March 8, COIDA approved an $84,000 working capital loan as a means to assist OGD ramp-up marketing and production capacity to meet the global demand and need for comfort-creating and energy-saving products.

“The COIDA recognizes the importance and value of small, innovative companies, such as Opto Generic Devices, Inc., who have committed themselves to operating in Otsego County and providing excellent employment opportunities to its residents,” said Chairman Joseph Bernier.

OGD, located at the very northern tip of Otsego County, manufactures and markets a line of superior rotary optical encoders and variable-HVAC units. OGD is a minority owned and operated business that has been in continuous operation since 1986, when Ormonde G. Durham first outlined his business purpose: “To research, develop, manufacture and market cost effective, high quality motion control products.”

OGD has developed, refined and patented a unique product that is built upon optical and graphical programming and processing. The technology has been developed to address and improve motor efficiency and control in the heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration industry, one of the largest users of alternating current electric motors.

Since 1999, the County of Otsego Industrial Development Agency (COIDA), has provided financial assistance to OGD in their efforts to design and manufacture high tech devices that address a wide spectrum of motion control markets, applications and products.
