OCCA nominated for Better World Award

The Otsego County Conservation Association has been nominated to receive the Better World Award through Rezoom.com, an online organization seeking to turn the successes of the “me” generation into significance for a “we” generation. As a nominee, OCCA could win as much as $100,000. Anyone wishing to vote for OCCA may do so by logging onto www.rezoom.com, clicking on the Better World site and following the steps to vote. OCCA was nominated by Mary Howes, who has been a member of the organization for about six years. “I was familiar with OCCA’s work through my friends, Ed Wesnofske and Teresa Winchester,” Howes said. “When I came across the Rezoom website, quite by accident, I got the idea to nominate OCCA. I can’t personally give the organization $5,000, but I would like to help it raise some funds.” Howes also wrote an essay explaining why OCCA should receive the award. The essay is viewable on both the Rezoom and OCCA websites. The essay concluded by stating, “In short, OCCA, with limited funding and a skeleton staff, provides an example of a grassroots organization at its best.” Howes has also written a letter to the editor to the local newspapers to encourage people to log on and vote.
